The men in each of our lives matter a lot to us, may it be your brother, father, friend, son or husband. Just like you would take care of your hair, the special men in your life should also know how to do the same for themselves.
A healthy balance in the ecosystem is when men and women are treated and respected equally. Similarly, just like a woman would take utmost care of her outward appearance, men shouldn’t shy away from doing the same. Earlier, men used to find it shameful or “womanly” to take care of their skin or hair. This is another result of toxic patriarchy and expectations of men to be more “manly”.
In today’s world there are a lot more men who aren’t ashamed to indulge in skin and hair care and we totally support that! We need more guys to talk about how taking care of your personal hygiene is important irrespective of your gender. It is not an issue of being or not being manly, it all boils down to whether or not you are keeping your body thriving and taking necessary measures to make sure it stays that way. When it comes to dry frizzy hair, most men tend to slap on some hair wax to put them back to place. Yes, it helps the frizz for time being but it makes your hair like the texture of hay in the long run. So, ladies please share this blog with the men in your life because we are here to spill some natural solutions to men’s frizz and make them understand it better because all hair matters.
Natural Way to Control Men’s Hair Frizz
First let’s take a look at what causes hair to be frizzy
Sun exposure: UV rays from the sun can cause discoloration, brittle and frizz.
Blow-drying and straightening: Any form of heat styling contributes to dryness of hair and damages your hair.
Friction: Friction from wearing hats, caps, etc. can ruin your hair texture and damage the cuticle of your hair.
Excessive shampooing: Shampooing your hair too often can strip your hair of its natural oil and cause your hair to be dry, frizzy, and prone to tangling.
Weather: When it’s hot and humid, the moisture in the air causes your hair to absorb moisture and swell. This swelling causes hair to bend irregularly and become frizzy.
Now coming to the solution to this problem, there are a lot of different chemical infused products available in the market but step 1 would be to STAY AWAY FROM CHEMICALS.
Balanced diet:
Any type of nuts is a great source of vitamin B, vitamin E, zinc and essential fatty acids. A handful of mixed nuts in between meals are a tasty snack which is also good for your hair.
Seeds have massive nutrients and relatively less calories. Vitamin E, zinc and selenium are a few of these nutrients which are packed in seeds.
Spinach is loaded with folate, iron, vitamin A and vitamin C. All these things are essential for healthy hair growth.
Eggs are a great source of protein and biotin which ensures good hair health. Eating adequate protein is necessary because hair follicles are mostly made of a protein called keratin.
Oiling:
If you suffer from frizz then pre-shampoo oiling is your BFF. Generally, it is recommended that you oil your hair an hour before or even overnight before washing them. This helps the oils to get absorbed deeply into in the scalp as well as along the lengths of the strands.
Coconut oil may have several benefits for your hair and scalp. Using it as a hair mask and leave-in treatment may help moisturize and seal hair. This can help prevent a dry, flaky scalp and dandruff, as well as split ends and hair breakage.
Argan oil is loaded with protective antioxidants, fatty acids and vitamin E that can give dehydrated strands a much-needed boost. It’s particularly beneficial if you have curly, coarse or thick hair, but it works amazing for all hair types.
Olive oil is a major contributor to hair nourishment. The oil has a moisturizing effect on hair by penetrating deep in the hair shaft and preserving moisture.
Shampooing and conditioning:
Rule number 1 is to shampoo less and condition more. Shampoo basically strips off moisture and oils from your scalp whereas a conditioner retains the moisture which is absolutely required to treat frizzy hair. Always shower with cold or lukewarm water. Hot water weakens your hair follicles and cuticles. Avoid rubbing your hair back and forth with a towel after you shower. These movements cause damage. Instead, gently blot or squeeze your hair to dry.
Apply a tablespoon or two of coconut or olive oil to your locks after shampooing. Allow the oil to soak into your strands for about 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
One of our favourite natural hair conditioners is a Banana and Honey mask
Ingredients:
- 1 ripe medium size banana
- 1 tbsp raw honey
Procedure:
• Mash the banana till smooth.
• Mix in the honey to form a thick paste.
• If it’s too thick, you can add some more honey or coconut oil in it.
• Apply all over your hair and leave it in for 20-30 minutes before washing off with mild shampoo.
Hair Masks to control Frizz:
-
Avocado Coconut Oil Mask:
Remove the flesh of one ripe avocado and mash it till it’s completely smooth. Add in 2 tbsp coconut oil and mix well. Apply the mask all over the hair and scalp, making sure to cover the tips. Leave the mask for 30 minutes and wash off with a mild shampoo.
Avocados are the best moisturizing ingredient for dry or frizzy hair because of the presence of good fats – both polyunsaturated and monounsaturated. It also contains biotin, an important vitamin for healthy hair.
-
Ginger Castor Oil Mask:
Mix 2 tbsp ginger powder, 1 tbsp powdered lemon/orange peel and add enough castor oil to make a paste. Apply the paste all over your hair and scalp and leave for 2 hours. Wash off with plain water or a mild shampoo if you like.
Apart from these things, make sure to get regular trims from your trusted barber and snip out any dry ends. Make sure you change your bed sheets and pillow covers regularly, better if they are satin to avoid unnecessary friction. With all these tips, make your peers jealous of your healthy shiny and nourished hair, sir!
